This evening I made a trip down 28th Street to make a deposit into the vast garagesaleland that is called Salvation Army. Those of you who know me are familiar with my urge to purge. As I'm driving I notice that I have an audience. People are sitting in lawn chairs just watching me drive by. I manage to suppress my first inclination which was to honk my horn and wave at them. But wait, isn't this the evening of the big Metro Cruise. Silly me, they are not here to see me after all. DUH!
So then I get carried away and I'm imagining what the announcer would say as I drive by. "And here it is, the van you've all been waiting to see! The not-at-all-fully loaded 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan SE. Notice the age spots (ummmm, rust) , a rare sight tonight, this van is proud to show its age. Lack of DVD and CD players and automatic sliding doors will help you realize how ancient this beauty is. And the missing hubcap does add a bit of character, kind of like a missing tooth. And wait, as it passes I do notice a slight mildew-y smell in the air. I hear it had a plugged air-conditioner drain hose and the floor inside is all wet. When it parks down at Pal's, please come by and see the interior. It's been officially "Mommed": carpeting is shot, goldfishes and Cherrios are everywhere, compartments are filled with leaky juice boxes, and children have written their names on the inside of the dirty windows. If you are able to find the stray golf ball that's been rolling around in there, you'll be the lucky winner of a ride in this oldie but goodie."

You
funny
lady.
stop drooling on the keyboard as you oogle the new minivan... keep in mind how much you are not writing a check for every month... that savings keeps you in appletini's and mani-pedi's...

Yes, I would love to drive a brand new and shiny fully-loaded van. One of those new Volkswagen Routans is calling my name.
My jalopy will do for now until we have to break down and take the plunge. I MUST get a new hubcap, however. That's where I draw the line!

I have no idea what happened, but WOW, I have 6 comments!
Not that I'm desperate, but it does appear I'd do anything for a comment!
