Church=Donuts

Scott is part of the Knights of Columbus, a service organization at our church. Every couple of weeks the Knights sponsor "Donut Sunday" as it is affectionately called. Donuts, coffee, and lemonade are served in our church hall after the 9:00 and 11:00 masses on Sunday. It's a way for the parishioners to mingle and chat and for new members to be welcomed to our church. Scott will usually go in early with some of the boys to help make lemonade and get the room set up. And, he and the boys help out during and after for clean-up.

Yesterday, on Easter Sunday, we went to the 7:30 a.m. mass. Yes, it was unusual for the Baldwins to venture out that early as a family but that particular mass was the most ideal for us given our travels.

Weston doesn't attend mass every week, but he is quite familiar with our church. He had a supply of books, cheerios, raisins and a sippie cup filled with orange juice. He was great, nice and quiet, attentive and all-around perfect little 3-year-old. Then came the Lord's Prayer where we all stand up and hold hands, followed by the Sign of Peace where we shake hands and say, "peace be with you." Well, these activities reminded him that mass was almost finished so he got a little antsy. He said, "I want to go home." We told him two more songs, a time frame that he could probably understand.

Then his little mind started working and as the church was very quiet he blurted out, "I want a donut." It was very cute and got some chuckles from the people sitting near us. Then he said a little louder, "I want a donut with chocolate and sprinkles." I wanted to burst out laughing but of course had to refrain! I did hear more chuckles! Poor guy, he had no idea this wasn't a Donut Sunday.

Before we knew it we were getting up for communion so that distracted him enough to stop asking for a donut!

But then on the way back to the pew, he didn't want to sit back down, he wanted his donut!

In his mind, Church=Donuts!

Happy Easter everyone!
